Yvonne Mashburn Schmidt  owns The Georgia Genealogist, Inc. and is the founder and CEO of InVGene.org. She holds Boston University's Certificate of Genealogical Research, the Certified Genealogist® credential awarded by the Board for Certification of Genealogists®, and the Certificate of Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) from Ramapo College, NJ.

Even though her client work with The Georgia Genealogist focuses on Georgia and Deep South Research, she has an extensive background working with nationwide Genetic Genealogy and Forensic Genealogy (with legal implication) cases. She also works with the Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, U.S. Army Past Conflicts Repatriations Branch to identify next of kin and DNA-eligible family of unidentified soldiers' remains. She became interested in Genetic Genealogy when she discovered she had a misattributed parentage. Since that time, she's worked with many clients to identify their biological parents. A natural progression of this work became Investigative Genetic Genealogy.

She is a native Georgian from Cartersville, Bartow County, GA, where in 2021, she was named one of 25 Bartow Notable Women who have made an impact on Bartow County and beyond dating back to the early 1800s through the present. She currently resides in Vidalia, GA - about 90 miles from Savannah - with her family.
